Soaring Kite Books publishes stories about Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) and underrepresented (Disability, LGBTQIA+, Neurodiverse, etc.) protagonists that are rooted in culture and family. Please see below for our submission details.
Our Portfolio
We want children and early adolescents of diverse backgrounds to know that they matter early and often and we value representation in our uplifting books.
We are currently open for submissions on any topic with immediate consideration for the following theme(s):

Empowering board books for 0-3 year olds with 200 words max.

Picture books for 0-4 year olds with 500 words max.

Picture books for 5-9 year olds with less than 1,000 words preferred.

Middle Grade Graphic Novels for 8-12 year olds with a preference for author-illustrators.
- Father-Child; Paternal Bonding
- Black Joy/Cultural Stories (especially holidays)
Submissions
AUTHORS: Typed, double-spaced manuscripts in a Word document or PDF with 12-point Arial or Times New Roman font and 1 inch margins along with a cover letter will be accepted at connect@soaringkitebooks.com. Please be sure to use the subject line: "Manuscript Submission" and include the following in your cover letter email:

Illustrations do not need to accompany manuscript submissions unless you are an Author/Illustrator in which case they are optional.

Submission Terms: By agreeing to review a submission, we do not assume any obligation to refrain from publishing a book based on a similar idea, concept, or story as submissions can be similar.
We do not accept manuscripts with animal main characters and any such manuscripts will not receive a response.
As small indie press with a big mission, we will only publish 8-10 standout
titles per year. Kindly allow 12 weeks for review.
